Question tags e perguntas indiretas

B1 Question tags & indirect questions 40 / 50

You’re coming, aren’t you? Could you tell me where the station is?

Regra

Question tags

Acrescenta-se uma mini-pergunta ao fim de uma afirmação. Duas coisas invertem-se ou copiam-se:

Se não houver nenhum (presente/passado simples), use do / does / did. Depois acrescente um pronome (não um nome).
Afirmação+ / -TagFrase completa
You are comingpositivaaren’t you?You’re coming, aren’t you?
She doesn’t smokenegativodoes she?She doesn’t smoke, does she?
They have leftpositivahaven’t they?They’ve left, haven’t they?
He can swimpositivacan’t he?He can swim, can’t he?
Tom works herepositivadoesn’t he?Tom works here, doesn’t he?
You didn’t callnegativodid you?You didn’t call, did you?

Even though the shop is shut, you can order online, can’t you?

Casos especiais

AfirmaçãoTagExemplo
I am …aren’t I?I’m next, aren’t I?
I’m not …am I?I’m not late, am I?
Imperativo (pedido)will you? / won’t you? / can you?Close the door, will you?
Let’s …shall we?Let’s start, shall we?
There is / are …isn’t there? / aren’t there?There’s a problem, isn’t there?
nothing / something (sujeito)itNothing’s wrong, is it?
nobody / somebody / everybodythey (+ auxiliar no plural)Somebody called, didn’t they? / Everybody has arrived, haven’t they?

Como esse pronome é they, o auxiliar do tag vai para o plural com ele (is -> are, has -> have, does -> do): Everybody is here, aren’t they? / Nobody has replied, have they?

He never calls, does he? / You’ve hardly eaten, have you?

Entoação (as mesmas palavras, significado diferente):

  • Entoação descendente = espera-se que o ouvinte concorde (não é uma pergunta real): It’s a lovely day, isn’t it?↘
You locked the door, didn’t you?↗

Perguntas indiretas (incorporadas)

Duas regras:

  1. Ordem da afirmação — sujeito antes do verbo. Sem inversão de pergunta.
  2. Sem do / does / did como auxiliar de pergunta.
Pergunta diretaIndireta (educada)
Where is the station?Could you tell me where the station is?
What time does it start?I wonder what time it starts.
Is the shop open?Do you know if/whether the shop is open?
When did they leave?Do you know when they left?

Para perguntas de sim/não, ligue com if ou whether: Do you know if it’s open? Para perguntas wh-, mantenha a palavra wh-: I wonder what it costs.

Formas e estruturas

Fórmula do question tag: Statement + , + (opposite polarity) auxiliary/BE/do + pronoun ?

Verbo da afirmaçãoO tag usa
am / is / are / was / werea mesma forma de BE
have / has / had (auxiliar)have / has / had
can, will, should, must, etc.o mesmo modal
presente simples (sem auxiliar)do / does
passado simples (sem auxiliar)did

Exceção — must: copie-o só quando significa obrigação (You must sign the form, mustn’t you?); para dedução, o tag vem da frase implícita por baixo: She must be tired, isn’t she? / He must have left early, didn’t he? (não mustn’t she).

Aberturas de pergunta indireta (depois, ordem da afirmação): Could you tell me … / Do you know … / I wonder … / Would you mind telling me … / I’d like to know … + palavra wh- / if / whether + sujeito + verbo.

Exemplos

EnglishNota
You’ve finished your homework, haven’t you?Afirmação positiva (have) -> tag negativo.
She isn’t coming to the party, is she?Afirmação negativa -> tag positivo.
Let’s take a break, shall we?Caso especial: Let’s leva sempre shall we.
I’m right, aren’t I?Caso especial: I am -> aren’t I.
Pass me the salt, will you?Pedido no imperativo -> will you.
He never listens, does he?never torna-a negativa -> tag positivo.
Could you tell me where the toilets are?Indireta: ordem da afirmação, sem inversão.
Do you know if the train has left?Pergunta indireta de sim/não com if.

Erros frequentes

  • You’re tired, isn’t it? -> You’re tired, aren’t you?
  • I’m late, amn’t I? -> I’m late, aren’t I? — o tag fixo para I am é aren’t I.
  • She likes tea, likes she? -> She likes tea, doesn’t she?
  • Could you tell me where is the station? -> Could you tell me where the station is? — sem inversão nas perguntas indiretas.
  • Do you know does it open on Sundays? -> Do you know if it opens on Sundays? — elimine does; use if/whether para sim/não.

Dicas

  • Regra rápida: afirmativa + tag negativo, negativa + tag positivo. Inverta a polaridade, copie o verbo.
  • Sem auxiliar na afirmação? O tag usa do / does / did para corresponder ao tempo verbal.
  • Procure negativas escondidas (never, hardly, nobody, nothing) — invertem o tag para positivo.
  • Nas perguntas indiretas, primeiro pense na pergunta direta, depois acerte a ordem das palavras e elimine do/does/did ao incorporá-la.
