Aggettivi e pronomi possessivi
A1 Possessive determiners & pronouns 5 / 50
In breve
Usa un aggettivo possessivo (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) prima di un sostantivo per dire a chi appartiene.
| Possessore | Aggettivo | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| I | my | my phone |
| you | your | your name |
| he | his | his car |
| she | her | her bag |
| it | its | its colour |
| we | our | our house |
| they | their | their dog |
| Possessore | Pronome | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| I | mine | It’s mine. |
| you | yours | Is this yours? |
| he | his | The book is his. |
| she | hers | The bag is hers. |
| we | ours | This table is ours. |
| they | theirs | The dogs are theirs. |
- Anna loves her job. (Anna è femmina -> her)
- Tom loves his job. (Tom è maschio -> his)
- The dog wags its tail. (il cane è «it» -> its)
its e it’s.
- its = possessivo (indica appartenenza): The cat licked its paw.
- it’s = it is oppure it has: It’s cold today. / It’s stopped raining.
Test rapido: se puoi dire «it is» o «it has», scrivi it’s (con l’apostrofo). Se non puoi, scrivi its.
whose chiede o dice chi possiede qualcosa:
- Domanda: Whose is this? / Whose car is that?
- Relativo: That’s the man whose dog barks all night.
Forme e strutture
| Pronome soggetto | Aggettivo (+ sostantivo) | Pronome (da solo) |
|---|---|---|
| I | my | mine |
| you | your | yours |
| he | his | his |
| she | her | hers |
| it | its | - |
| we | our | ours |
| they | their | theirs |
own. Metti own tra un aggettivo possessivo e il suo sostantivo per aggiungere il senso di «e di nessun altro» — her own desk, its own logo. Non segue mai un pronome usato da solo: di’ my own room, non mine own room.
Due strutture utili:
- a/an + sostantivo + of + mine/yours/… = uno tra diversi: She is a friend of mine. (= un mio amico)
- Whose + sostantivo + is this/are these? per chiedere chi è il possessore: Whose keys are these? — They’re mine.
Nessun apostrofo in hers, yours, its, ours, theirs.
Esempi
| English | Nota |
|---|---|
| This is my umbrella, not yours. | aggettivo prima di un sostantivo (umbrella) |
| Is this seat yours? | pronome, sta da solo, nessun sostantivo dopo |
| The children finished their homework. | possessore = they -> their |
| Maria called her sister. | possessore = Maria (femmina) -> her |
| Daniel lost his keys at work. | possessore = Daniel (maschio) -> his |
| The company changed its logo. | possessore = it (l’azienda) -> possessivo its |
| It’s my birthday today. | it’s = it is, con l’apostrofo |
| Whose jacket is on the chair? | whose chiede chi è il possessore |
Errori frequenti
- her car (quando il possessore è maschio) -> his car — accorda con il possessore, non con il sostantivo.
- The dog hurt it’s leg. -> its leg — il possessivo its non ha l’apostrofo.
- Its a nice day. -> It’s a nice day — qui significa «it is», quindi usa it’s.
- This book is your. -> This book is yours — la forma usata da sola è yours.
- That is hers’ bag / a bag of her -> That is her bag / That is hers / a bag of hers — hers non prende mai l’apostrofo, e sta da solo: usa her prima di un sostantivo, hers dopo of.
Consigli
- Regola in breve: aggettivo + sostantivo (my book) contro pronome da solo (It’s mine).
- Per its/it’s, prova a dire la frase con «it is». Se ha ancora senso, ti serve l’apostrofo (it’s).
- Le parole possessive hers, yours, its, ours, theirs non prendono mai l’apostrofo — l’apostrofo appartiene solo a it’s (= it is/has).
- La parola che scegli dipende dal possessore: he -> his, she -> her, it -> its, they -> their.
