Pronombres reflexivos e indefinidos

A2 Reflexive & indefinite pronouns 30 / 50

También añaden énfasis (I painted the house myself = nadie me ayudó), y después de by significan «solo / sin ayuda»: He lives by himself. Cuando un verbo o un adjetivo lleva una preposición, el reflexivo simplemente va detrás y mantiene el significado sencillo de «la misma persona»: She only thinks about herself, Be kind to yourself.

SujetoReflexivoEjemplo
ImyselfI hurt myself.
you (uno)yourselfHelp yourself.
hehimselfHe blames himself.
sheherselfShe enjoyed herself.
ititselfThe cat washed itself.
weourselvesWe introduced ourselves.
you (más de uno)yourselvesHelp yourselves, everyone.
theythemselvesThey built it themselves.

Di I feel tired (no I feel myself tired), She got dressed (no dressed herself), We meet on Mondays (no meet ourselves).

each other / one another (recíproco). They love each other significa que A quiere a B y B quiere a A (mutuamente).

Pronombres indefinidos. Se forman con some- / any- / no- / every- más -one / -body / -thing / -where. La elección entre some / any sigue la misma regla que la lección 22: some- en oraciones afirmativas, ofrecimientos y peticiones; any- en negativas y preguntas. Estas palabras llevan un verbo en singular (Everybody is here), pero para referirnos a ellas usamos they / their / them cuando se desconoce la persona (Someone left their bag), y themselves cuando hace falta un reflexivo (No one should have to do it by themselves).

Errores frecuentes

  • I feel myself tired. -> I feel tired.
  • They love themselves. (con sentido mutuo) -> They love each other. — usa each other para «el uno al otro».
  • Everybody are happy. -> Everybody is happy.
  • I didn’t see nobody. -> I didn’t see anybody. / I saw nobody. — no mezcles not con no-; usa any- después de una negación.
  • Is there something to eat? -> Is there anything to eat? — usa any- en preguntas (pero some- en ofrecimientos: Would you like something?).

Consejos

  • Reflexivo = un espejo. La acción rebota hacia quien la hace. Si el complemento es una persona distinta, usa un pronombre de complemento normal: I saw him (no himself).
  • by + -self = solo. I did it by myself = sin ayuda; I did it myself (énfasis) = fui yo, no otra persona.
  • each other (2 personas) frente a -selves (hacia ti mismo). «They emailed each other» = en los dos sentidos; «They emailed themselves» = cada uno envió un correo a su propia bandeja.
  • Después de someone / everybody / no one, usa un verbo en singular pero they/their para referirte de nuevo a la persona — así evitas decir he or she: Has anyone lost their keys?
