A2 Reflexive & indefinite pronouns 30 / 50

(I painted the house myself = 아무도 나를 도와주지 않았다), by 뒤에서는 ‘혼자서 / 도움 없이’라는 뜻이 됩니다: He lives by himself. She only thinks about herself, Be kind to yourself.

you(단수)yourselfHelp yourself.
hehimselfHe blames himself.
sheherselfShe enjoyed herself.
ititselfThe cat washed itself.
weourselvesWe introduced ourselves.

I feel tired라고 하고(I feel myself tired이 아님), She got dressed라고 하고(dressed herself이 아님), We meet on Mondays라고 합니다(meet ourselves이 아님).

each other / one another(상호대명사). They love each other는 A가 B를 사랑하고 B도 A를 사랑한다는(서로) 뜻입니다. 둘 사이에는 each other를 쓰고, one another는 같은 뜻을 조금 더 격식 있게 말하는 방식입니다.

부정대명사. some- / any- / no- / every-에 -one / -body / -thing / -where를 붙여서 만듭니다. some / any 중 무엇을 쓸지는 22강과 같은 규칙을 따릅니다: 긍정문, 제안, 요청에는 some-을, 부정문과 의문문에는 any-를 씁니다. 이 단어들은 단수 동사를 씁니다(Everybody is here), 하지만 그 사람이 누구인지 모를 때는 they / their / them로 다시 가리키고(Someone left their bag), 재귀 표현이 필요할 때는 themselves을 씁니다(No one should have to do it by themselves).

  • I feel myself tired. -> I feel tired. — feel, wash, shave, relax, meet, concentrate
  • They love themselves.(서로라는 뜻) -> They love each other.
  • Everybody are happy. -> Everybody is happy. —
  • I didn’t see nobody. -> I didn’t see anybody. / I saw nobody. — not과 no-를 함께 쓰지 마세요; 부정문 뒤에는 any-를 씁니다.
  • Is there something to eat? -> Is there anything to eat? — 의문문에는 any-를 쓰지만(제안에는 some-를 씁니다: Would you like something?).

  • by + -self = 혼자. I did it by myself = 도움 없이; I did it myself(강조) = 다른 사람이 아니라 바로 나였다는 뜻.
  • each other(두 사람) vs -selves(자기 자신에게). ‘They emailed each other’ = 서로 주고받음; ‘They emailed themselves’ = 각자 자기 메일함으로 보냄.
  • someone / everybody / no one 뒤에는 단수 동사를 쓰지만, 다시 가리킬 때는 they/their를 씁니다 — he or she라고 말하지 않아도 됩니다: Has anyone lost their keys?
