B2 Participle clauses 46 / 50
- Feeling tired, I went to bed. (= Because I felt tired…)
- The man standing at the door is my uncle. (= the man who is standing…)
- Built in 1850, the bridge still stands. (= the bridge which was built…)
- Shocked by the news, she sat down. (= Because she was shocked…)
- Having finished dinner, we went out. (= After we had finished dinner…)
(She stood at the window, waiting for the taxi)、後ろに置かれた having (been) + 過去分詞は、それでも前の動作を示します(We left early, having seen the film before)。
Walking home, I got caught in the rain.
Not knowing the way, we asked a local.

例文
| English | 注 |
|---|---|
| Hearing the alarm, everyone left the building quickly. | |
| Not feeling well, Sam stayed home from work. |
| The students waiting outside soon got cold. | who were waiting |
| Written in plain English, the report was easy to read. | 過去分詞=受動(which was written)。 |
| Frightened by the storm, the dog hid under the bed. | 理由を表す過去分詞(because it was frightened)。 |

- Walking to school, my bag broke. -> Walking to school, I noticed my bag had broken.:
- Build in 1850, the bridge still stands.
- Finishing dinner, we went out.(明らかに前のことなら)-> Having finished dinner, we went out.:完了した、前の動作には完了分詞を使います。
- Knowing not the answer, he stayed quiet. -> Not knowing the answer…:否定を表す not は分詞の前に来ます。
- Shocking by the news, she sat down. -> Shocked by the news…:
Turning the corner, the shop…?
