A2 Comparatives & superlatives 23 / 50
Вживайте вищий ступінь, щоб порівняти два предмети (cheaper, more expensive), і найвищий ступінь, щоб виділити один із групи (the cheapest, the most expensive). Короткі прикметники додають -er / -est; довші вживають more / most.
|---|---|---|
| Односкладові: cheap, small, fast | + -er: cheaper | the + -est: the cheapest |
| Двоскладові на -y: happy, easy | -y -> -ier: happier | the + -iest: the happiest |
| Кілька двоскладових слів: quiet, simple, narrow, clever | + -er: quieter | the + -est: the quietest |
| Інші дво- і більше складові: expensive, careful | more + прикметник: more expensive | the most + прикметник: the most expensive |
Tokyo is bigger than Osaka.
- (not) as … as для рівних / нерівних предметів: She is as tall as her brother.
- the + найвищий ступінь, часто з in (місця, групи) або of (набір/період): the tallest in the class, the best day of the year.
|---|---|---|---|
| закінчується на -e -> + -r / -st | nice | nicer | nicest |
| (та сама форма) | hot | hotter | hottest |
| закінчується на -y -> -ier / -iest | happy | happier | happiest |
|---|---|---|
| good | better | best |
| bad | worse | worst |
| far | further / farther | furthest / farthest |
| little | less | least |
| many / much | more | most |
Підсильте чи послабте порівняння словами much / far / a bit / a little перед формою вищого ступеня:
- This phone is much better.
- Today is a bit colder than yesterday.
- The older I get, the happier I am.
- The more you practise, the better you speak.
- Please drive more carefully.
- She works the most efficiently in the morning.
| English |
|---|---|
| My new bike is faster than my old one.
| This is the cheapest ticket in the shop.
| Your bag is as heavy as mine. | as … as = рівні |
| The film was not as good as the book. | not as … as = гірший |
| Summer is hotter here than in the north. | подвоєння приголосного: hot -> hotter |
| She feels much better today.
| He is the most talented singer of them all. | довгий прикметник: the most + of |
| The more I read, the more I learn. |
- more good / the most good -> better / the best — good — неправильний прикметник.
- She is taller that me -> taller than me — у порівняннях вживайте than, а не that.
- the most cheap -> the cheapest — односкладові прикметники приймають -est, а не most.
- as tall than him -> as tall as him — модель рівності — as … as.
Поради
- Спершу порахуйте склади: 1 склад -> -er/-est; 3+ склади -> more/most.
- Вищий ступінь поєднується з than; найвищий ступінь — з the (і часто з in чи of).
- Після than та as займенник в об’єктному відмінку звучить природно в розмовній мові (than me); повне підрядне речення (than I am) звучить офіційніше.
- Тримайте короткий список неправильних форм напохваті: good/bad/far/little/many.
