수량형용사: some/any/much/many/(a) few/(a) little

A2 Quantifiers: some/any/much/many/(a) few/(a) little 22 / 50

A few / a little은 ‘조금 있음’을 뜻하고, few / little(a 없이)는 ‘거의 없음’을 뜻합니다.

규칙

some vs any.

긍정문someI’ve got some money.
부정문anyI don’t have any money.
질문anyIs there any milk?
제안 / 요청someWould you like some tea? / Can I have some water?

much vs many vs a lot of. 긍정문에서는 둘 다 a lot of / lots of을 쓰는 것이 더 자연스럽습니다.

부정문 / 의문문much (much time?)many (many people?)
긍정문a lot of / lots ofa lot of / lots of

(a) few vs (a) little.

그 밖의 수량형용사. too much / too many = 원하는 것보다 많음(과함). (not) enough = 적당하거나 그 이하의 양. no + 명사 = not any(There’s no bread = There isn’t any bread). all, most, some, no/none, every, each, both, a couple of은 어떤 집단 중 얼마만큼을 가리키는지 보여 줍니다. 특정한 집단을 가리킬 때는 the / my / these이나 대명사 앞에 of을 붙입니다: some students(학생 일반)이지만 some of the students / most of them(그 반). All와 both는 명사 앞에서는 of를 생략할 수 있지만(all (of) the shops) 대명사 앞에서는 생략할 수 없고(both of us), every는 절대 붙이지 않습니다(every pupil). There are no seats / None of the seats are free / I looked, but there were none.

  • I have any friends. -> I have some friends.
  • I don’t have some time. -> I don’t have any time. — 부정문에는 any를 씁니다.
  • She has much books. -> She has a lot of / many books. — much는 불가산명사용이며, 긍정문에서는 a lot of를 씁니다.
  • I have a few money. -> I have a little money. — money는 불가산명사이므로 a few가 아니라 a little를 씁니다.
  • There aren’t no apples. -> There aren’t any apples. / There are no apples. — 이중부정을 쓰지 마세요; no가 이미 “not any”라는 뜻입니다.
  • He has too much friends. -> He has too many friends. — 가산명사 복수형에는 too many.

Would you like some cake?
셀 수 있다면(복수형) many / a few / too many를 씁니다. 셀 수 없다면 much / a little / too much를 씁니다.
  • a가 붙으면 긍정적인 뜻이 됩니다. a few / a little = “충분하니 걱정 마세요”; few / little = “충분하지 않아 문제입니다”.
  • 일상적인 긍정문에서는 a lot of / lots of가 가산명사와 불가산명사 모두에 안전한 선택입니다.
