A1 Conjunctions & linking words 20 / 50
가장 흔한 접속사는 and, but, or, so, because입니다.
|---|---|---|
| and | 추가(+) | tea and coffee |
| but | 대조 | small but strong |
| or | 대안 / 선택 | tea or coffee? |
| so | 결과 | It was late, so I went home. |
| nor | ”그리고 ~도 아니다”(부정문 뒤) | He doesn’t smoke, nor does he drink. |
and, but, so이 완전한 두 문장(절)을 이을 때는 그 앞에 콤마를 씁니다:
I like tea, but I don’t like coffee. It was raining, so we stayed inside.
A1 단계에서 흔히 쓰는 것: when, after, before, while, because, if, although.
|---|---|---|
| 시간 | when, after, before, while | I called you when I arrived. |
| 이유 | because | I’m happy because it’s Friday. |
| 조건 | if | If it rains, I’ll stay home. |
| 대조 | although | Although it was cold, we went out. |
When it rains, I stay inside. > I stay inside when it rains.
because + 절(주어 + 동사) vs because of + 명사:
|---|---|
| because + 절 | I was late because the train stopped. |
| because of + 명사 | I was late because of the train. |
|---|---|
| 절 , but/so/and + 절 | She tried hard, but she lost. |
| 절 because/if/when + 절 | Call me if you need help. |
| Because/If/When + 절 , + 절 | If you need help, call me. |
예문
| English |
|---|---|
| I have a brother and a sister. |

| Do you want tea or water? |
| I was hungry, so I made a sandwich. |
| We stayed home because it was raining. |
| We stayed home because of the rain. |

- I stayed home because of it was raining. -> I stayed home because it was raining. — 동사 앞에는 because of가 아니라 because을 씁니다.
- Although it was late, but we went out. -> Although it was late, we went out.
- I went home. Because I was tired. -> I went home because I was tired.
- When it rains I stay in. -> When it rains, I stay in.
- I like coffee but tea. -> I like coffee and tea.
- 암기 도우미: and은 추가, but는 대조, or은 선택, so = 결과, because = 이유.
Although이나 Because로 시작했다면 뒤에 but이나 so를 덧붙이지 않습니다.
- 완전한 두 문장이 만날 때는 “콤마 + but/so”를 쓰고, 짧게 이어진 단어(black and white)에는 콤마를 쓰지 않습니다.
- however, therefore, on the other hand
