A1 Prepositions of time 16 / 50
요약
at은 시각에, on은 요일과 날짜에, in은 더 긴 기간(월, 계절, 연도, 하루 중 시간대)에 씁니다. today, tomorrow, yesterday과 this / next / last + 시간처럼 쓰이는 단어 앞에는 전치사를 전혀 쓰지 않습니다.
규칙
세 가지 주요 시간 전치사는 in에서 at로 갈수록 범위가 작아집니다:
| 전치사 | 쓰임 | 예 |
|---|---|---|
| at | 시각, 축제일, night, (영) the weekend | at 6 o’clock, at noon, at Christmas, at night, at the weekend |
| on | 요일과 날짜, 특정 아침/오후 | on Monday, on 5 May, on my birthday, on weekdays, on Monday morning |
| in | 월, 계절, 연도, 세기, 하루 중 시간대 | in July, in summer, in 2024, in the 21st century, in the morning |
간단한 암기 도우미: in = 긴 상자(연도, 월, 하루 중 시간대) -> on = 달력의 하루 -> at = 정확한 지점(시각)

자주 하는 실수
- in Monday -> on Monday — 요일에는 on을 쓰고, in는 쓰지 않습니다
- on the morning -> in the morning — 하루 중 시간대에는 in을 쓰지만 (on Monday morning는 예외)
- at July -> in July — 월에는 in을 씁니다
- in last week -> last week — this / next / last와 함께 쓸 때는 전치사를 쓰지 않습니다
- since two hours -> for two hours — for = 기간; since = 시작 시점
- He left before two hours -> He left two hours ago — 지금부터 거슬러 센 시간에는 ago를 씁니다
학습 팁
- 범위가 줄어드는 순서: in(월, 연도, 계절) > on(하루, 날짜) > at(정확한 시각). 시간의 범위가 작을수록 단어도 작아집니다.
- 다음을 고정 표현으로 외우세요: at night, in the morning / afternoon / evening, at the weekend(영) / on the weekend(미).
- 요일 이름이 등장하는 순간 on으로 바꿉니다: in the evening이지만 on Tuesday evening
- for은 how long?에 대한 답이고 since은 since when?에 대한 답입니다 — 둘 다 현재완료(25강)와 자연스럽게 어울립니다.
