義務・助言を表す助動詞:must/have to/should
A2 Modals of obligation & advice: must / have to / should 26 / 50
これらの動詞は、すべて別の動詞の原形の前に置きます(have to、ought to、need to を除いて to は不要です)。
You must wear a seatbelt. / I must call her.
- have to / has to =外部からの義務(法律、仕事、状況など):I have to work on Saturday.
| You mustn’t smoke here. |
| don’t / doesn’t have to | 必要ではない。 | You don’t have to come. |
- should / shouldn’t =助言、勧め:You should rest. / You shouldn’t worry.
You ought to see a doctor.
You’d better hurry.
I had to leave early yesterday.
I need to buy milk.(否定形:don’t need to)
We’re supposed to wear black.

例文
| English | 注 |
|---|---|
| You must wear a helmet on the bike. | |
| I must remember to charge my phone. | |
| Anna has to wear a uniform at work. |
| Do you have to get up early tomorrow? | have to を使った疑問文では do を使う。 |

| It’s late - we’d better leave now. |
| Sorry, I’m late - I had to take the dog out.
- You don’t must smoke. -> You mustn’t smoke.:must は do を使うことはありません。禁止を表す形は mustn’t です。
- You mustn’t pay, it’s free. -> You don’t have to pay, it’s free.:「必要ではない」は don’t have to であり、mustn’t(禁止)ではありません。
- Does she must work today? -> Does she have to work today?:疑問文には must ではなく(do/does を使って)have to を使います。
- I must to call him. -> I must call him.:must、should、mustn’t の後に to は付きません。
- Yesterday I must leave early. -> Yesterday I had to leave early.:過去の義務は常に had to です。
- You should to rest. -> You should rest.:should の後は原形で、to は付きません。
- 覚え方:mustn’t=止まれ!(禁止)、don’t have to=気にしなくていい(任意)。
You’d better save your work(or you’ll lose it)。
