Zählbare und unzählbare Nomen

A2 Countable & uncountable nouns 21 / 50

Kurz gefasst

Zählbare Nomen kann man zählen: Sie haben einen Singular und einen Plural und stehen mit a/an und Zahlen (a book, two books). Unzählbare Nomen werden als eine einzige Masse gesehen: Sie haben keinen Plural und kein a/an (water, money, advice).

Die Regel

Ein zählbares Nomen ist ein eigenständiges Ding, das du einzeln zählen kannst. Es hat zwei Formen:

  • Singular mit a/an: a car, an apple
  • Plural mit -s oder einer Zahl: cars, two apples, three cars

Ein unzählbares Nomen ist eine Masse, ein Material, eine Flüssigkeit oder eine Idee. Du behandelst es als ein einziges Ganzes, also:

  • kein a/an davor: a water -> water / some water
  • kein Plural--s: advices, informations -> advice, information
  • es steht mit einem Verb im Singular: The news is good. The furniture is new.

Viele Nomen, die im Englischen unzählbar sind, sind in anderen Sprachen zählbar. Das führt zu den häufigsten Fehlern auf A2-Niveau. Lerne diese kurze, häufige Liste als unzählbar:

TypUnzählbare Nomen (kein Plural, kein a/an)
Flüssigkeiten / Lebensmittelwater, milk, coffee, tea, rice, bread, sugar, butter
Materialienwood, paper, plastic, gold, money
Abstrakt / Informationinformation, advice, news, knowledge, work, music, fun, weather, luck, help
Gruppe als Massefurniture, luggage, baggage, equipment, traffic

Um ein unzählbares Nomen zu zählen, benutzt du eine Maßeinheit oder ein Gefäßwort + of:

StrukturBeispiele
a piece of + Na piece of advice, a piece of information, a piece of furniture
a glass / cup of + Na glass of water, a cup of coffee
a slice / loaf of + Na slice of bread, a loaf of bread
a bit of + Na bit of luck, a bit of help
a bottle / bag / kilo of + Na bottle of milk, a bag of rice, a kilo of sugar

Das macht sie auch im Plural: two pieces of advice, three glasses of water, two pieces of luggage.

Benutze bei jedem Typ die passende Mengenangabe. Some und any funktionieren bei beiden.

  • Wenn du direkt eine Zahl davorsetzen kannst (two ___), ist es zählbar. Klingt das falsch, ist es unzählbar.
  • Eselsbrücke für die kniffligen Fälle: advice, information, news, furniture, luggage, work, weather, money sind im Englischen alle unzählbar.
  • Benutze a piece of als sicheres Zählwort für abstrakte Nomen und Gruppennomen: a piece of advice / information / news / furniture.
  • much wirkt in bejahten Sätzen förmlich. Im Alltagsenglisch benutzt man für beide Typen a lot of: a lot of money, a lot of friends.
